San Diego is a melting pot of brewing talent, a perfect place for beer lovers to explore new mixtures of hops and flavors. Rachel Camacho is a brewer for Pacific Beach AleHouse. She combines her passion for beer and her go-getter attitude to make her drinks as delicious as they can be.

Pacific Beach AleHouse has been, for years, a perfect spot to eat, drink, and enjoy an ocean view in San Diego. Unfortunately, a recent kitchen fire put AleHouse business on hold, and left many employees without shifts for weeks.

The fire caused damage to the AleHouse brewery’s draftlines, along with damage to other areas of the restaurant. Brewing equipment is costly to replace, so it is lucky that the brewery damage was not more extensive.

The surrounding restaurant industries in Pacific Beach have been wonderful in terms of helping AleHouse employees who are temporarily

out of work. Rachel was flooded with support from her friends and family after the fire. Guest-brewing opportunities were sent her way immediately.

Rachel’s brewing career began with her love for drinking and discussing craft beer. She started out as a volunteer for the AleHouse brewery and worked her way up to become a knowledgable beer professional. Rachel teaches beer classes for the Ale House servers so that they can learn how the process works. Pictured above are AleHouse servers learning their brewery basics.

This successful woman says that her best advice for brewers, and anyone following their career dreams, is to focus on finding a job that will make you happy. “Don’t wait for your retirement to become happy,” said Rachel. “Choose to be happy now, no matter what. If that requires a career change then do it."

Although the AleHouse fire was a serious misfortune, it sparked something inside of Rachel that makes her feel extra appreciative of her job and her coworkers. The long road that led her where she is has shaped her mentality into something unstoppable. Refusing to let the fire bring her down, Rachel says that she is ready to tackle anything that comes her way.

“Alehouse has provided me with a unique opportunity to learn and brew as well as connect with some incredible people," said Rachel. "The fire reaffirmed my passion for craft beer and brewing and I’ve felt quite the void since I’m not brewing at the moment.”

Rachel’s goal for Pacific Beach Ale House is to enter in beer competitions and win. The exact date of AleHouse’s reopening has not yet been determined, but it is only a matter of time before the place is rocking with energy as the employees return to work. Thanks to inspiring leaders like Rachel Camacho, Pacific Beach AleHouse is coming back for a fresh start, with even fresher beer.
